During recent rains, run off water hit the lorry parking, and flooded houses and areas like Chinnaswamy Nagar, Kamaraj Nagar, Kamalammal Nagar, Annanagar, etc.
Corporation officials said various factors lead to repeated waterlogging in the area despite their best efforts to drain out the water.
"We have run out of provisions and medicines. There is no way to go out. Nobody including food delivery executives and house helps has been able to come," said Gomathi Shankar, a resident
Parts of Chennai and outskirts continue to suffer from waterlogging as there has been no let up in intermittent rains.
In Tamil Nadu, every political party promises to clean Chennai’s rivers and desilt the tanks, but does nothing when in power.
As many as 14 complaints were lodged, of which eight have been resolved, stated a data from the corporation’s control room.
Water from these areas in Southern Chennai generally reach Pallikaranai marshland, from where it goes to the sea through the Buckingham canal.
“The height of the bunds also needs to be increased to prevent the water from flowing into the agricultural lands and houses.
"We created 1000 kilometres of new storm water drains which were also maintained according to a strict standard operating procedure,” said Corporation Commissioner G Prakash
Despite the sincere efforts, many localities witnessed waterlogging. Madipakkam, Adambakkam, Velachery and Nanganallur were largely submerged.
The rain gauges, each covering a 30-m radius, provides information on rainfall recorded to help officials identify areas where there has been heavy rainfall.
In a bid to prevent waterlogging of central medians on roads, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will lay storm water pipelines along certain medians in the city.
Roads in some low-lying areas like Hindmata, King's Circle and Kalachowki were inundated after heavy rainfall during the night.
