BENGALURU: The High Court on Wednesday directed BBMP and BDA not to sanction any new construction projects in the Bellandur Lake area against the requirements stipulated by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).
A division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath passed an interim order, after the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that authorities have failed to follow a KSPCB circular.
KSPCB had issued guidelines for construction projects, including making it mandatory to obtain Consent for Establishment before applying for approval of plans from agencies.
Another guideline was that apartment complexes with a built-up area of 5,000 square metres and above or having more than 50 residential units must have effluent treatment plants (ETP).
The bench passed the order in response to a PIL filed by Rajya Sabha member D Kupendra Reddy seeking directions to authorities to clean the lake. The bench gave three weeks’ time to file objections.
